Windows 7, 버전이 7.0이 아니고 6.1?

한 번 작업 표시줄에 ‘시작’ > ‘프로그램 및 파일 검색’란에서 winver.exe를 실행해 보십시오. 그러면 아래 그림과 같이 Windows의 버전과 빌드(Build) 정보를 알 수 있는 ‘Windows 정보’ 박스가 나타납니다. 여기를 보시면 Windows 7의 버전이 6.1(빌드 7000)라는 것을 보실 수 있습니다.

그렇다면 왜 Windows 7을 꼭 마이너 업데이트인 6.1 버전이라고 명명한 것 일까요? 좀 멋있어 보이게 7.0으로 확 올려서 정할 수도 있었을 텐데요…… ^^;

초창기 윈도우 비스타에 많은 불만을 가지고 있었으나 비스타가 출시 되고 6개월 정도 지나고 부터 윈도우 비스타에 순응 (?) 하며 살다 보니 , 윈도우 XP 보다 장점도 많은 OS 라 비스타만 거의 사용하다 시피 하고 있습니다 . 그런데 올 초부터 여기 저기서 윈도우 7 에 대한 소식이 들려오네요 .

오랜 기다림/오랜 지연 끝에 출시됐던 마이크로소프트의 최신 OS, 윈도우 비스타가 마이크로소프트가 기대했던 만큼의 성공을 거두지 못했다는 사실은 굳이 말하지 않아도 모두가 잘 알고 있을 것이다. 2007년 1월에 출시된 비스타의 매출은 줄곧 저조했다. 많은 신규 컴퓨터 구입자들이 비스타를 건너뛰고 XP로 다운그레이드 하는 편을 택했다. 기업들과 IT 근로자들의 경우 이 같은 추세가 더욱 확연하다. 심지어는 마이크로소프트 조차도 소비자들에게 비스타를 건너뛰고 XP에서 윈도우 7으로 바로 전환하는 것이 가능하다는 것을 재차 확인시켜주고 있다. 이에 따라, 전문가들 간에 비스타의 실패 이유를 두고 논의가 분분하다.

윈도우7에서는 레코딩 기능이 더욱 향상 되었다. 윈도우7 베타 7022 버전을 테스트해 본 결과 윈도우7에는 디스크 이미지 파일인 ISO파일까지 레코딩할 수 있었다. 
레코딩하는 방법도 간단했다. ISO파일을 더블클릭해주기만 하면 바로 레코딩 창이 떠서 레코딩할 수 있게 해 주었다.

향상된 CPU와 메모리 관리 기술, 새로운 자바 스크립트 엔진 등으로 CPU 사용은 15~20%, 24시간 사용했을 때 메모리 사용량은 최대 80%까지 줄였다. 자바 스크립트 구현은 5배 이상 빨라지는 등, IE7 보다 평균 검색 시간을 15% 정도 단축시켰다.

아시다시피 낮은 제원에서는 매우 느리게 동작하는 윈도 비스타 덕분에 UMPC나 미니노트북에서는 여전히 윈도XP를 사용하는 경우가 많았습니다. 한때 마이크로소프트는 사용자의 편의보다는 자사의 정책을 강요하여 이들에게도 윈도 비스타를 강요, 쓰는 이들에게 엄청난 불편을 강요하다가 결국 특정 조건을 만족하는 경우에 한하여 윈도XP를 허용하고 있습니다.
하지만 새로 나온 윈도7은 느린 PC에서도 꽤 괜찮은 성능을 보여주기 때문에 최적화된 윈도 비스타 라는 별명으로도 불리며 UMPC나 넷북 계열에서도 많이 채용될 것으로 예상되고 있습니다.

Windows Live (윈도우 라이브) 제품군은 기본적으로 서버 운영체제를 지원하지 않습니다.
즉, NT 커널 5.1 Windows XP와 6.0 Vista 데스크톱 제품만 지원한다는 것인데, 이 말은 서버 2003, 서버 2003 기반의 XP x64, 서버 2008을 아예 사용할 수 없다는 것입니다. 서버에 Live 제품을 설치한다는 것 자체가 매우 바람직하지 않지만, 분명히 서버에 접속해서 지원을 해야 된다던지, 개인적으로 개발 서버를 운영하는 경우라면 충분히 문제가 될 수 있습니다.

Ok, so you got me, this is one of those shameless plugs posts. However, this is something that could benefit all you bloggers out there. Quite some time ago now ( over two years! ) I released my very first version of my Live Writer Backup utility, and it has remained relatively untouched since the first version of Writer went final (there were a few things that changed throughout the beta). Sure, I added extra functionality to it, but the core of it never changed. The program itself got good reviews (well, no-one pointed out any bad ones), and even some strange reviews , but still good.

As of today, WorldWide Telescope is no longer limited to the Windows operating system, as the an alpha version of the WorldWide Telescope Web Client was released  and it’s based on Silverlight 2.0! This means that you can now bring this virtual telescope to any platforms that supports Silverlight 2.0. Here’s a screenshot of the web client running in my browser:
 
Hotmail Web Messenger returns (or does it?) - LiveSide

Web Messenger, expected as part of the Wave 3 update to Windows Live Hotmail but only seen in fits and starts, appears to be making a comeback.  We spotted Web Messenger in December, only to discover that we were still hosted on dogfood servers after a preview we were privy to for the Wave 3 release.  Then Web Messenger made another appearance for some users, although that didn’t last long either.

Now we’re getting reports that Web Messenger is returning, although we’re not seeing it here as of yet.  Jamie Thomson logged in from Web Messenger today, and we chatted briefly about what he was seeing :

Using the new Ribbon feature in Office 2007 takes time to learn…time you don't have because projects are stacking up.  Today we will look at UBitMenu, a utility that puts the familiar Office 2003 menu into the 2007 ribbon.

When I first tried Office 2007 it took a lot of frustrating time figuring out where all of the features were located.  It is laid out much differently than previous versions of office.  When the "pointy-haired bosses" require deadlines to be met you don't have time to learn where everything is.  This is where UBitMenu comes in, it places the classic 2003 menu in as a new ribbon.

Flip 3D is used to flip through your currently open windows in a easy to use format without having to click on the taskbar. Flip 3D displays your open windows in a stack . Recently Microsoft has unwrapped changes in RC build 7033 in comparison of public beta (build 7000). There are many under the hood changes including bug fixes, compatibility fixes, performance improvements, and improvements. Some changes have been shorted here.
